President Yoweri Museveni’s advice to Ugandans on how to get through bad economic times has been toned down by the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) (FDC claims Museveni should not preach ‘okukekereza‘ while he spends Shs1.8 billion per day)
Museveni spoke to Ugandans on Sunday about the country’s present economic woes, urging them to practice ‘Okukekereza’ (frugality) or stop using commodities that have alternatives.
Museveni is preaching water and wine, according to FDC spokesperson Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda.
“Mr. Museveni continues to live a lavish lifestyle as if the country is unaffected. At his house (State House), he has 1500 staff, including 139 presidential advisors. He’s even budgeted Shs 8.3 billion to cover the rent for these advisers. Butcherman, Full Figure, and Kusasira are among the advisors.
Museveni’s mansion presently has a total budget of Shs677 billion, which translates to Shs1.8 billion each day. And his office has a budget of Shs 147 billion, which translates to Shs 400 million per day,” Ssemujju remarked.
Museveni, according to Ssemujju, should be the first to slash spending on non-essential products.
“In the recently passed budget, Museveni set aside Shs140 billion for donations. He has funds to host workshops and seminars at his home. Really. Who goes to the State House for seminars? Because she is the minister of education, the wife is quite busy. The ladies have all married. He inquired, “Who attends workshops at State House?”
