One could imagine that, in this day and age of swiftly expanding worlds and advancing technologies, racism has passed us by.
That, however, does not appear to be the case in some regions of the world, where racism persists, particularly in sports.
Rehemah Namakula, better known by her stage name Rema, a Ugandan singer, has also spoken out about her first-hand experience with bigotry at a Turkish airport.
Rema revealed in a video clip posted to her social media accounts that while at the airport, a Turkish child in the company of her parents looked at her and her crew and began crying.
When the parents of the child inquired as to why she was crying, she pointed to Rema, and the parents answered with words in which they referred to them as “monkeys.”
She went on to say that she was stared at in an unfavorable manner and that the gestures on the faces of a few of other people made her feel like she was back in the days of the slave trade.
