Shifah Musisi’s second studio album, following “Olugendo,” is titled Dark & Happy Times. The album delves into important aspects of life such as love, family, and friendship, among others. It also looks at life’s ups and downs from Shifah’s point of view. (Shifah Musisi’s “The Dark & Happy Times” Album delves into life )
Tondekangawo, Taata, Webale, Emirembe, Kusema, Munsi Eno (featuring Charmant Mushaga), Mutulo, and Ebilowozo are among the songs on the album, which will be officially released later this year.
Michael Fingaz, Loukman Ali, and Bob Dickson, among others, combined their talents in audio production, songwriting, and video production to create magic on this album.
“We get to exist in our own perfect little worlds while we sleep.”
We look at the various songs on the album and the message embedded in their lyrics:
Taata
Taata is a Luganda word that means “Father.” It’s a song for fathers. They say that the bond that fathers form with their daughters is unbreakable, and Shifah Musisi explores that bond in this incredible song. She declares that the strength of this bond will always outweigh any other she will ever form.
Emirembe
“Emirembe” translates to “Peace” in English. It’s a song about finding peace when you’re loved by the right people. Shifah Musisi sings in the song about how sometimes someone comes into your life and wipes away your tears, bringing you immeasurable peace, and how thankful we should be for such people.
Kusema
Musisi spreads her lyrical wings in Kusema and sings in Swahili. In Swahili, “Kusema” means “to speak.” The songstress begs her imaginary lover to say something to calm her anxious heart in the song. The song is one of the main love songs on the album The Dark & Happy Times.
Eno, Munsi (feat. Charamant Mushaga)
Charmant Mushaga, a well-known Ugandan guitarist and vocalist, appears on “Munsi Eno.” The song is about the relationships we form in this world that become important in our lives.
Friendship is an important aspect of human life, and when we meet friends who are there for us through thick and thin, we should cherish them.
Mutulo
Shifah Musisi hints, “Sleep is one of the most beautiful things in the world.” “Part of that is because we get a chance to exist in our own perfect little worlds while we sleep,” the cheerful singer adds.
Shifah Musisi’s song gives the listener a glimpse into the perfect world that exists only in her dreams. She sings of a world without pain, anger, hatred, sickness, or suffering – a world filled with love, peaceful coexistence between man and beast, and unfathomable beauty.
Tondekangawo
Tondekangawo, which translates as “Never leave me,” is a call to our friends to stand by us no matter how difficult life becomes. It’s a song you should listen to with a friend. True, disagreements and fights occur in all relationships, but we choose to see the bright side and choose forgiveness. We can weather any storm and remain lifelong friends.
Webale
Webale is a song of gratitude. On this planet, we all have someone or something to be thankful for. Shifah sings in this beautiful song about being thankful for those who are there for us, the ones who teach us, fix us, and make our dreams come true. At times, all these people require is a simple “thank you!”
Ebilowozo
This is one of my personal favorites. “Ebilowozo” literally means “thoughts.” The song expresses the anguish we feel when people we care about leave our lives for one reason or another, leaving us with only our thoughts and memories to reflect on the good times we shared in the past.
