Although the Nyege Nyege festival is known for drawing thousands of visitors from abroad to enjoy a mix of both local and international entertainment, this year’s title sponsor Uganda Waragi is creating a whole town especially designed to provide a genuine Ugandan experience. The village, dubbed “The Ugandanness,” will pay homage to Ugandan lifestyle and culture throughout the festival, which takes place from September 15 through September 18 at Itanda Falls in Jinja, by showcasing beloved local delicacies (such as Rolex, Kalo, and Luwombo); well-known Ugandan streets (such as Bandali Rise); and many other elements.
The village will host performances from real Ugandan artists including Nilotika, Otim Alpha, Domadana Kadodi Drummers, Nakibembe Xylophone Troupe, Masaka Masaka, and more on the entertainment front.
Along with Deejays Selector Jay, Alisha, Naselow, Kampire, Zato, and others, Cindy Sanyu, Pallaso, Navio, and Janzi Band will also play.
“At its core, Nyege Nyege is about bringing people from different walks of life together to celebrate and express themselves authentically, and Uganda Waragi – being the spirit of Uganda – is looking to celebrate the festival’s return with a truly Ugandan experience,” said Hillary Baguma, UBL’s Brand Manager Mainstream Spirits, in response to the news.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this is the first physical edition of Nyege Nyege to take place. Itanda Falls will serve as the festival’s new home; it is five times larger than the previous location and guarantees attendees plenty of space for fun and adventure with entertainment, visual arts installations, and innovative stage designs that blend in with the forest, the Nile, and the falls.
Regarding the event arrangements, Baguma stated that despite the larger venue, the organizers, including Talent Africa Group, are coordinating with the appropriate security agencies to provide festivalgoers with the utmost level of safety and security.
