The Nyege Nyege Festival may not return after a nearly three-year break after Parliament ordered the Ministry of Tourism and Ethics and Integrity to suspend due to morality issues. (Nyege Festival To Be CUT OFF By Ugandan Parliament in 2022 )
The Itanda Falls in Jinja will host the 2022 Nyege Nyege Festival from September 15 through September 18.
Different party animals are already getting ready by booking their tickets and lodging well in advance so they won’t miss out on the excitement, feeling the hype.
However, they might need to take things more slowly now that worries about alleged immorality at the festival have been highlighted during a debate in the Ugandan Parliament.
The event “is a breeding ground for sexual immorality,” Tororo Woman MP Hon Sarah Opendi stated during the parliamentary seating on Tuesday afternoon.
The Minister of State for Tourism, Hon. Martin Mugarra, promptly refuted her argument by saying that the event is “a centre of tourism” and that over 8,000 foreign visitors have already reserved tickets.
While supporting Hon. Sarah Opendi’s argument that tourism promotion shouldn’t be done at the price of children’s morals, Speaker of the House Hon. Anita Among disagreed.
After the late Ethics Minister Hon. Simon Lokodo’s unsuccessful attempt to halt the event in 2018, this is not the first time a Member of Parliament has made the request. (Nyege Festival To Be CUT OFF By Ugandan Parliament in 2022 – latest celebrity gossip 2022)
