President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni warns against whitening while praising the beauty of women with dark complexion in his blog post titled “Omufunga Izooba.” Museveni discusses the significance of African hair and melanin.
President Museveni listed his favorite songs and said that they teach the listener the qualities of beauty.
The rejection of the pitiful self-hatred that Africans, especially the women, formed as a result of the inferiority mentality brought on by the Colonial trauma, according to the author, is the special and concluding interest that we may get from these songs.
“Many of these songs tell us about the aspects of beauty that, for example, the Banyankore find appealing. You’ve heard of the lovely woman with light complexion named Ngaanzi.
However, particularly dark-skinned ladies like Mbiindi or Nkyerengye were valued even more highly in the hierarchy of beauty. The admiration for women with dark complexion was both aesthetic and scientific.
“Dark skin is caused by melanin, which functions as a sieve to filter out the sun’s damaging UV radiation that can destroy the human body. Therefore, hating the dark color is a form of psychosis. Frantz Fanon, a psychiatrist, examined this mental illness in his book “Black Skin, White Mask.”
According to President Museveni, Africans “benefit from the dark skin and the short hair” and shouldn’t try to improve either of these characteristics.
“The obsession among African women to chemically alter their hair to resemble that of Europeans or Asians is pitiful. Our entire body was scientifically created to fit the surroundings. Whites and Asians, both sexes, have long hair to assist them adapt to their chilly climate by trapping more warm air around the head to help warm the entire body. The necessity of the tropics is to keep the body cool and block the sun’s UV rays most of the time.
“For this reason, Africans are benefited by their dark skin and short hair. African women with short, scientifically correct hair are among the most attractive. Examples include Okweera-Ngaanzi, Mwangaangye, Nfuruuto, Nyengyere, Ihaangwe, and kwiragura-Mbiindi, Nkyereengye. Who is more gorgeous than these in the entire world?
Some fashionable women would maintain their long hair with Kushokoza (combing). I’m not sure how it affects science, but at least it is natural. Melanin-induced black skin has a scientific and medicinal purpose by blocking the sun’s harmful ultraviolet radiation.

“It is highly valued by the local Banyankore Bahororo. When describing a woman’s beauty and wealth, they use the phrase “Nairaguza ebinyaatsi,” which means “she is so black that when she sits on the grass, it turns black,” together with an orugasha rwe-ihaamba (a wild bush that is either black or purple).
The grouping of the short, curly hair on top of the head could potentially be both scientific and medicinal. The two apparent scientific purposes are to serve as a car radiator to cool the body by evaporating sweat, which removes heat, and to shield the body from ultraviolet sun rays, which are hazardous to human health.
It appears that keratin, a material that itself is a UVI blocker or something similar, is what causes the hair to curl (ultraviolet rays). Therefore, you must block the keratin if you want to straighten African hair. Is this wholesome?
“Second, the hair naturally forms a protective shield for the head and body by curling and gathering together. Does the same protection exist if you try to look Asian or European with your hair cascading over your neck and shoulder? How’s the cooling going? The surface area of evaporation for cooling increases with the number of curls you have. When you loosen the hair, do you maintain the same quality? Before admitting that his son Muhoozi told him to wear a hat, Museveni asks a few probing questions.
“My kid Muhoozi informed me that I should wear a hat because I have a bald head. He must have watched the TV and seen this information. I have heard that the South Sudanese Dinkas needed to be extremely tall and dark to thrive in the hot and muggy Nile Valley. Why? For sweating and cooling purposes—the radiator effect in a car—they require a larger surface area.
In order to block the sun’s ultraviolet radiation, they also require substantial melanin. People who are short and brown may boil due to a lack of cooling if you take them there.
He urges Africans to never feel inferior and to embrace their beauty as he ends his speech.

“Africa, take a stand and be ecstatic. Everything is available to us, including the ability to create wealth, a sophisticated lingua franca, a strong patrilineal family structure, and beautiful skin and hair. We are not required to imitate anyone. Tetulina kwenyomba
