The Luganda expression “Gwe Nalonda” means “The one I picked.” R&B and mellow reggae elements are combined in the song.
It investigates Kezi Leo’s innovative new style, which tries to combine Ugandan lyrics and melodies with western instruments and genres.
Five months have passed since the release of Kezi Leo’s 4-song AfroPop EP “Afro Atarah,” her second release of the year.
According to Kezi Leo, he was motivated to write “Gwe Nalonda” in 2021 by a circumstance he was going through. With little to no advice from anyone besides the internet, he says, “love and relationships have been such a difficult road to navigate as a young adult.”
“Gwe Nalonda was a turning point for me,” he continues. It serves as a reminder to let go of the things and people that have injured you, regardless of how much you may still love them.
In addition, according to Kezi Leo, the song is “a poem with rhythm to it” and an apology you can dedicate to a loved one when you accidentally harm them.
Kezi Leo, whose real name is Katwere Leo, is a budding Afropop and RnB star from Uganda. In 2016, he debuted as “Leo Kyz” with the tune “Attention,” which was created by Ugandan producer Imorush.
“My name is Leo. I was once referred to as Kezzie, but I later changed it to Kyz. That was the name I went by. Although I wanted to maintain it, I later changed my name to Kezi Leo. As a result, when I joined with this label, we wanted to start over, just like any other brand-new artist, so, yep, we decided to use that name,” he says.
Later, he released a few more songs, including “Patricia” (produced by Fleak Type), “Nkwetaga,” “Cover You” (with Aspika Spoila), “Body Is Calling,” and many others. These later came together to form the mixtape “Ride 4 U.”
Kezi Leo is currently associated with the Kenyan record label Stretch Hold Music. He is a part of Zagang, a well-known urban band in Uganda. Additional musicians in the ensemble include Kavali King and Eli Litman, among others.
As he constantly strives to portray emotional stories about love and inspiring material, he refers to his music as “Love Music.”(“Gwe Nalonda” by Kezi Leo was motivated by a real-life incident VIDEO – latest celebrity news).
