The Ministry of Education plans to build four primary schools in the newly formed town councils in Mbarara area. The town councils have been in operation since the 2019/20 fiscal year. (The government will build primary schools in newly formed town councils)
The schools approved for building include Nyabisirira Primary School in Nyabisirira town council, Kacerere Primary School in Rwanyamahembe town council, Rubindi Central Primary School and Kabare Primary School in Rubindi-Ruhumba town council.
The Ministry of Education and Sports wrote to District Education Officers last month, demanding that they present parishes/wards that lack public or government-aided elementary schools.
According to Ahimibisibwe, each school will most likely cost more over one billion shillings.
According to Justus Muhaire, Chairperson of the Social Services Committee, the development of the schools will bring services closer to the people. He argues that students in newly formed town councils had the issue of walking large distances to schools in sub-counties.
Juliet Nabakooba, Vice-Chairperson of Mbarara District, says it took time to designate the wards under the new town councils, but she feels it will be beneficial.
She claims that the growing population of school-aged children made the need for new schools unavoidable.
According to Herbert Rutahunga, an elder in Rwanyamahembe town council, several students have walked more than 10 kilometers from these town councils to subcounties. (The government will build primary schools in newly formed town councils – celebrity jazz ug)
