Presidents of Uganda and Rwanda, Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame, have committed to work together to promote regional peace and stability.
On the sidelines of Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the first son and commander of the ground forces, 48th birthday state dinner, the two had a private encounter.
According to sources at the Entebbe State House, the two leaders of state resolved to work together to promote regional peace and stability, beginning with the sitar in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The Democratic Republic of the Congo has recently joined the East African Community Block.
“At State House Entebbe today, the two presidents met bilaterally to discuss a variety of issues. In a statement, the presidential press team said, “They addressed regional peace and stability….”
Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, and the first son greeted Kagame when he arrived at Plot 01 for a one-day special visit.
Museveni greeted Kagame upon his arrival in Uganda, saying that the region’s difficulties, such as the Congo crisis, require a coordinated response from all regional members.
“This time, we must insist on cooperating because these individuals have been through so much.” “I warned President Kenyatta that unless we join in as a region, Congo might become Sudan,” Museveni stated.
In his speech, Kagame stated that the Congolese situation should not be blamed on others, and that leaders and all parties involved must work together to end the crisis.
“They must discuss without abandoning anyone,” Kagame remarked.
According to the Presidential press staff, Museveni also briefed President Kagame on the recent discussions in Nairobi, Kenya, between the Congolese government and the M23 insurgents.
Later, Museveni hosted Kagame to a banquet in honor of Muhoozi, together with the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Kataaha Museveni.
President Kagame’s most recent visit to Uganda was in March of 2018. The contribution of Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba in mending Uganda-Rwanda relations is credited to him.
