The Uganda National Cultural Centre’s primary component is the National Theatre (UNCC).
This magazine has learned that the fire destroyed the gardens’ stores.
Officers from the Uganda Police Fire Brigade were spotted attempting to put out the fires that were raging in the stores.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, a welder named Vincent Sanjo was arrested and detained at the Kampala Central Police station on suspicion of starting the fires.
Sanjo is alleged to have been welding at one of the kiosks when the fire erupted due to sparks from the welding machine, according to eyewitnesses.
“A fire that broke out at the National Theatre destroyed property worth millions of shillings.” “The fire started as a result of welding from one of the kiosks, and the police fire department put it out before it spread,” Owoyesgyire explained.
According to sources who did not want to be identified and spoke on the condition of anonymity, the welder ignored the fact that the containers were thatched with grass and continued welding, sparking off the fire.
The National Theater, designed by Peatfield and Bodgener Architects, was Uganda’s first modern theater.
