Apple may be compelled to discontinue the use of iPhone Lightning connectors in charging cables for iPhones, iPods, AirPods, and other devices. According to sources, EU politicians are pressuring Apple to discontinue the iPhone charging cable and transition to USB Type-C. Will it be available on the Apple iPhone 14 when it launches in October or November 2022? Learn more.
According to Bloomberg, Apple’s Lightning cable technology became operational with the release of the iPhone 5 in 2012, replacing the 30-pin connectors used by prior iPhone and iPod generations. And it appears like the lightning bolts have vanished. Because practically all Apple products use the Lightning Connector, the switch would require consumers to purchase all new cables for their numerous Apple gadgets. What is the cause for this change? To please EU lawmakers. In April, the EU opted to make the USB Type-C format the official charging standard for all electronic devices, including smartphones and tablets.
According to EU regulation, “mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones and headsets, handheld video-game consoles, and portable speakers rechargeable by a wired cable must, regardless of manufacturer, be equipped with a USB Type-C port.” Apple is harmed since other electronics manufacturers, such as Nintendo, already use USB Type-C charging ports on their Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite gaming consoles.
“We are worried that requiring only one type of connector for all devices on the market to be controlled will hurt European consumers and hinder the introduction of positive advancements in charging standards relating to safety and energy efficiency,” stated an Apple spokesperson.

According to Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, the new charging cable will not be included with the iPhone 14 lineup, which is slated to be introduced in September, but rather in the second half of 2023.
