ampala Young Engineers Uganda, a STEM Education brand of the African School of Innovations Science and Technology (ASIST) Ltd, has won this year’s nomination to represent Uganda at the Pan African Robotics Competitions (PARC 2022) in Dakar, Senegal, next month. Queen Ankunda Kajwengye (15), Lowena Mwiza Rugyendo (14), Gabriel Josephat Kawalya (12), Pearl Ayebare (11), Ethan Samuel Kazoora (10), Celine Nyonyozi (10), Leona Pauine Ainemukama (9) and Aleem Israel Mangalji are among the eight members of the ‘Team Uganda’ (8).
In a meeting with CEO Rugyendo (C) and former Deputy Ambassador to Nairobi H.E Eyal David in 2018, Education and Sports Minister Janet Museveni (L) endorsed Commends Young Engineers.
Mr. Ada Tapily, the PARC 2022 coordinator, wrote to ASIST Ltd on June 17, 2022, saying, “I am glad to welcome your kids to the 2022 Pan-African Robotics Competition” (PARC). This year’s tournament will take place at the Dakar Arena in Dakar, Senegal, from July 1 to 5. PARC is a program that allows middle school and high school students to work together. Robotics competitions will be held for high school and university students from throughout the continent. Students that take part have a one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn how to apply science and technology to solve societal challenges. He wrote, “We’d like to invite your students to participate in this year’s competition.”
The theme for this year is “Sustainable Impact,” and students from around Africa will be challenged to develop robotics and drone solutions for climate change adaption, hunger, water, sanitation, and transportation in Africa.
“We expect teams from more than 30 countries to participate.” This forum provides an opportunity for students to address themes that are relevant to their education and aspirations, in addition to the Pan-African competition and the youth forum,” he added.
The World Bank Group, Vex Robotics, Freedom Robotics, MathWorks, Deloitte, Carnegie Mellon University- Rwanda, the Republic of Rwanda, MasterCard, and UB. Tech are among the sponsors of the competition.
“We have been steadfast in our mission of cultivating the future generation of Ugandan scientists, technologists, critical and creative thinkers since the beginning of this program in 2016.” Some of our most talented students from our LEGO and Robotics programs are shown here. “I present them for help when it’s needed because most of their parents can’t afford the costs,” he explained.
Mr. Rugyendo commended individuals and institutions, including Galaxy International School, Kazaire Health Products, King Caesar University/King Caesar Mulenga, Housing Finance Bank, and Kampala Standard, for their support so far.
Rugyendo also expressed gratitude to H.E Quillino Bamwine, Eswatini’s Honorary Consul, Mr. Ghulam Raza Badriwala, Mr. Raymond Karamagi, and Ms Peace Kyampaire (a.k.a Pretty Kontagious).
Mr. Rugyendo further stated that more donations will be announced later this week after the list of supporters within and beyond Uganda is finalized.
Rugyendo explains, “We have painstakingly created hands-on courses that blend instruction and pleasure, producing our unique “edutainment” method, which uses a LEGO and Robotics curriculum.”
The curriculum is implemented in Uganda through a network of partner schools, including Heritage International School, British School of Uganda, and a number of other private institutions.
