The irate crowd demonstrated at the Muganzi Lwaza building in Katwe, where Evelyn Lagu was scheduled to perform last Thursday.
The group had been advised that they would only be able to meet the proprietors of the Muganzi Lwaza building at 2PM today, but due to the tragic state of their fellow unwell actor, they couldn’t make it till then.
Shouting at the top of their lungs, the enraged crowd asked that the Katikiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, explain why Evelyn Lagu’s concert, which was to be place at the edifice, was called off at the last minute despite clearing all that had been demanded.
They continued to put pressure on the Katikiro, reminding him that Buganda is intended to provide jobs for the youth of Buganda, which they appear to be failing to achieve.
They also demanded that the Muganzi Lwaza owners publicly state that creatives are no longer allowed in the venue, if this is the fact.
Evelyn Lagu is reportedly still hospitalized at Kiruddu Hospital as she receives dialysis after collapsing last week after learning of the cancellation of her show.
Speaking to media from her hospital bed, Evelyn Lagu emphasized that the cancellation of her show not only pained her but also made her health worse, despite the fact that she was starting to feel better.
Evelyn Lagu claimed that she opted to create her own event because some promoters were afraid to hire her owing to her precarious health situation.
Many promoters reportedly stated that she needed to fully recuperate before they could begin scheduling her again. She also stated that she would sometimes sneak into shows and ask to participate.
She would gather money from fans and a few tokens of gratitude from promoters at these events, so she decided to hold her own concert for greater finances. ( Artists protest the cancellation of Evelyn Lagu’s show – celebrity jazz ug )
