Delta TV station debuted in early 2015, but it has since struggled to break into the Ugandan market.
Gaster Lule Ntake, Abbey Mukiibi Nkaaga, and Patrick Ssebunjo previously owned the Katwe-based TV station.
According to reports, the two major shareholders sold it in 2021 to a businessman whose identity is still unknown.
They decided to close the TV station after realizing that it had failed to break even and that the operational costs were becoming unsustainable for them.
Many employees were stunned by this move because they had not received their full salaries for months and had finally decided to strike as a result.
Employees announced in a letter to the general manager that they had laid down tools and would not return to work if the arrears were not cleared.
“In this regard, we bring to your attention that we were forced to lay down our working tools,” a letter excerpt read.
