FDC Mourns Mutebile Emmanuel Bank of Uganda former Governor, Claims He Was Forced To Stay In Office Against His Own Will.
The Forum for Democratic Change party has criticized President Museveni for keeping the fallen Central Bank governor, Prof. Emmanuel Tumusiime-Mutebire in office against his own will despite his failing health.
The party’s officials, while mourning the deceased told reporters during the Party’s weekly briefing at Najjankumbi that Mutebire had to struggle throughout his tenure as a governor to stabilize the economy while printing extra money to sustain the regime.
The Party President, Patrick Oboi Amuriat explained that Mutebire should not be blamed for the failed economy despite having been the country’s chief financial advisor:- but rather, on the President –

“We borrow more than Shs 7 trillion annually to pay salaries of government employees and to fund other recurrent expenditure. That is partly what has kept interest rates high because private people are competing with the government. As a central bank governor, he has been the regime’s principal economic advisor and he takes a big share of the blame for its failed economic policies. The Bank of Uganda was turned into a Museveni wallet” he said.
Amuriat also took a jab at the government’s failure to create better health services to its citizenry since Mutebire passed away in a Nairobi-based hospital.
He added that the fallen banker did not have to die in office since he has been unwell for a longtime.
Mutebire’s body is expected in the country today and his burial is expected to take place at Kololo Independence grounds with President Museveni as the chief mourner.
