First Son Lt. Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba is no longer in charge of the UPDF’s Land Forces, per President Museveni. General Muhoozi Droped as the Commander of UPDF’s Land Forces
Muhoozi will now be succeeded as the commander of the UPDF’s Land Forces by Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, according to a statement sent on Tuesday afternoon.
Muhanga was elevated from the position of Major General to Lieutenant General by the president, while Muhoozi was promoted to full general.
Muhoozi altered his twitter profile to read Special Presidential Advisor/Special Operations as soon as the adjustments took effect.
The fact that Muhoozi was elevated to full general may have lessened the shock. This will be Museveni’s second firing of his son from a leadership post in the past five years.
He replaced Muhoozi as Special Forces Command commander in 2017. (SFC).
He won’t have a job description for his special advisor position within the army.
Muhoozi had already intimated in a tweet that after speaking to his father, modifications will be made.
A change in
The adjustments follow Lt Gen Kainerugaba’s recent Twitter outburst, in which he said it would take his troops just two weeks to seize Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
“My troops and I would need two weeks to seize Nairobi. Where should I reside if we take Nairobi? Westlands? Riverside?”
“I am pleased that members of our district in Kenya have positively replied to my tweet,” he continued. Nairobi is still two weeks away.
Many people are confused by the intermittent posts, and some are asking if Kainerugaba is in control of his twitter account.
Frank Tumwebaze, the Agriculture Minister, and other Muhoozi supporters have advised the people to not take the tweets seriously because they were written in fun.
However, whether they were jokes or not, many people, especially Kenyans, were offended by the tweets.
According to sources, Kenya’s incoming foreign affairs minister Alfred Mutua invited Uganda’s ambassador to Nairobi, Hassan Galiwango, to a meeting this morning on a number of issues, including Muhoozi’s tweets.
Museveni had instructed his son to cease tweeting fwaa, as we had previously reported.
It won’t be the first time Muhoozi has clashed with the president over his social media outbursts.
President Museveni warned the army council meeting in Entebbe in July of this year that such unrestrained communication could breed opponents for Uganda.
Museveni stated in July that “it can have the consequence of harming our export potential and also fostering unprincipled disputes among us.”
Muhoozi, however, later denied the rumors as incorrect.
