The way you carry yourself in life, especially in leadership, will frequently dictate how you manage difficulties. People will respect you and, more significantly, they will not trust your sense of direction as a leader if you appear vulgar or a warmonger (to the point of personally attacking people against you). (King Saha shoots himself in the foot by assaulting Bebe Cool during the UMA elections)
Even if he disagrees with others, a leader must always respect himself and inspire the same emotion in others. This is the type of leader UMA requires. That is something that every musician should understand.
The Uganda Musicians Association is a fantastic project. However, the association’s leadership quality will have a significant impact on the initiative’s future. Leadership is not like entertainment, where wars and attacks are used to delight audience members.
Even if such attacks occur, the revelers want them to be musical rather than physical. When it comes to the leadership of a musicians’ organization, though, it’s no longer about entertainment, but about molding the economic future of a country. It’s all about wisdom, integrity, and, above all, unity.
UMA has come a long way and still has much further to go. The last thing UMA needs is a leader who will divide the organization and lead to its demise even before it reaches its intended purpose. King Saha appears to possess all of the characteristics of a leader who will lead this organization to its demise.
I’ve been watching his reactions to Bebe Cool’s endorsement of a different presidential candidate than him. I was dissatisfied with Saha’s handling of these issues. Bebe Cool offered his own rationales on why one candidate is superior than the other.
Among the many reasons, the most important to me were that the person must know English, be able to interpret policy and communication, and have a minimum degree of education. These were, and continue to be, valid reasons. That is, without a doubt, exactly what UMA requires.
Now, for me to add to that, UMA requires a tolerant and respectful leader. A leader who will find it easier to bring musicians together and inspire others to join, and who will respect people even when they have opposing viewpoints and focus on finding a common ground for these opposing viewpoints.
UMA does not, and will not, require a leader who defends himself by using personal attacks, or a leader whose first concern is to humiliate those who hold opposing viewpoints. In this case, if Bebe Cool, as an aspiring leader, was able to call a press conference and highlight his views (which were quite valid) on what a true leader in UMA should be, what was so difficult about Saha doing the same and responding to Bebe Cool’s divergent views and actually demonstrating that he meets those basic minimum requirements? Any leader does the same thing.
On the contrary, Saha rushed to the studio and recorded ‘Zakayo,’ a song aimed at Bebe Cool, and as if that wasn’t enough, he went on to imagine that ‘revealing’ how Bebe Cool was paid for dowry would win souls over.
With all due respect to Saha, I believe that his level of counter-argumentation is timid and inept, and that he lacks leadership abilities. It rather demonstrates that if Saha is elected president of the UMA, he will reply to opposing viewpoints with personal attacks rather than rational solutions.
It also demonstrates Saha’s intolerant leadership style. He will foment discord and marginalize those who oppose his leadership. As a result, he is a poor leader, and his attacks on Bebe reveal how bad of a leader he is for the institution. If he can do that to Bebe Cool, musicians should expect Saha to do the same to anyone else if he has the ability.
If he truly despises Bebe Cool, he should have pretended to welcome differing viewpoints and shocked the music industry by demonstrating that, despite their feud, he will respect Bebe Cool’s differing viewpoints and continue to prove that he meets all standards and goes above and beyond what the Gagamel boss set. However, he responded in a cowardly and inept manner.
The way other candidates for the same job have responded to their detractors has made Saha appear out of place. Saha appears to be too young for leadership based on Cindy’s handling of interviews about her criticism. For the time being, he is a better songwriter than a leader.
Saha also needs to understand that having Bobi Wine’s support does not make him a better leader. Youths are becoming more aware of the realities of their desires. Bobi Wine’s endorsement isn’t enough to make Saha a stronger leader. His demeanor (especially when dealing with detractors) is what reveals his leadership potential (this is a reality).
If Bebe Cool’s press conference was meant to reveal how Saha will react to being exposed as the terrible leader that he is, Saha has demonstrated his inadequacy as a leader, and artists must vote carefully. They do not need to vote for the candidate backed by Bebe Cool, but they do need to vote for the best candidate for the job, which is not someone with Saha’s leadership skills.
Saha needs to rethink his tactics and properly sell himself for the job. He needs to learn to say less than necessary and see that the more he says, the more common he appears, the less in control he appears, and the more he puts the people who approved him to shame.
Good leaders make an impression by doing more than they say. The more he talks, the more likely he is to say something stupid again, and UMA does not need a leader like that. At least not in the beginning

If he can’t preach unity before assuming power, how will he do it once he has it? Will he behave logically when he obtains power if he can’t respond to critics any other way than by attacking people’s wives and families? Will he be able to handle people with opposing viewpoints respectfully once he gains power? (King Saha shoots himself in the foot by assaulting Bebe Cool during the UMA elections – celebrity jazz ug )
