MTN’s Joseph Bogera presents the Kawempe team with a check.
MTN staff visited the Focus for Life Development link businesses in Kampala’s Kawempe Division on Tuesday, as well as the Tesobar Deaf Carpentry workshop in Lira District. This is part of their newly launched staff-driven Corporate Social Responsibility initiative titled 21 Days of Y’ello Care, which aims to provide communities with digital skills training while also boosting their economic activities.
Joseph Bogera, MTN Uganda Sales and Distribution General Manager, led the Kampala team, while Phillip Odoi, MTN Uganda Northern region Business Manager, led the Lira team.
Each of the two entrepreneurship communities received a Shillings 8,000,000 million check to help them with their businesses. They were also given wheelbarrows, rakes, hoes, spades, brooms, and reflective jackets to help them keep the environment clean. This followed a cleaning effort by MTN personnel prior to the digital skills training and relief package handovers.
MTN was praised by Kakande Muhamad, Vice Chairperson of Focus for Life Development Link in Kawempe, for illuminating the community through generous giving.
Members of Focus for Life Development taught MTN staff how to make charcoal briquettes from solid waste.
Sulaiman Mulangira, the Resident City Commissioner of Kawempe Division, thanked MTN for supporting and engaging in sanitation duties as well as upskilling youths in digital services. He also agreed to collaborate with MTN on future projects. (MTN Uganda assists business communities in Lira and Kawempe –celebrity jazz ug)
