When questioned about Ugandan sound in comparison to the rest of the world and other African countries, Paddy Man shared his thoughts.
He reasoned that he used to make creative beats back in the day. Using the song “Basiima Ogenze” by Jose Chameleone as an example, he says that the song’s originality is why many people loved it, but now, due to the influence of South Africans, Nigerians, and Jamaicans, local artists go into the studio and ask producers to sample beats from those mentioned countries.
According to him, such activities have rendered some producers lethargic in terms of developing original beats, and thus continue to destroy the Ugandan sound.
He is hopeful, however, that everything will work out in the end.
Paddy Man also alluded to the inferior quality musical instruments that the majority of people utilize. He reasoned that someone using a USD100 microphone couldn’t compete competitively with someone using a USD1000 microphone.
