The accident occurred around 9:45 a.m. in Nalongo, Luwero district, and included a Uganda Prisons Vehicle, a Tata lorry with registration number UG0363U, and a Toyota fielder with registration number UBG 587
According to Faridah Nampiima, a traffic police spokesperson, the penitentiary truck, which was carrying 55 prisoners and 12 prison officials, collided head on with the Toyota fielder vehicle, which had a tyre burst and went off to the side.
She claims the lorry then flipped multiple times, killing five detainees and injuring several others.
