UGANDA, SOROTI: According to Christine Eyu, the Returning Office Soroti District, the nomination of candidates for the Soroti East by-election began today (Monday, July 18-19, 2022). (The EC has begun the nomination process for the Soroti East by-election)
“We are prepared, and the nomination will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 5:00 p.m. at the Soroti Electoral Commission headquarters,” Eyu said.
“We urge candidates for the seat to maintain time and peace during and after the elections,” she added.
Eyu stated that the Electoral Commission’s mandate is to ensure that elections are free and fair.
“Only ten people, including the candidate, will be allowed access to the venue and must adhere to COVID-19 guidelines,”
The Soroti east seat became vacant after the Court of Appeal overturned Moses Attan’s election as the area Member of Parliament.
The by-election will be held on July 28, 2022, with voting beginning at 8:00 a.m.
Soroti East Constituency has 35,277 voters, 13 wards, 84 cells, and 63 polling stations, according to the Election Commission. (The EC has begun the nomination process for the Soroti East by-election – Latest news in Uganda)
