WBC champion Tyson Fury defeated fellow Briton Dillian Whyte in the sixth round with a spectacular one-punch finish and subsequently announced his retirement from fighting.
Fury dominated a tough fight before landing a powerful right uppercut.
Whyte did a fantastic job of getting to his feet before staggering into the referee as the fight was called off.
“This could be the Gypsy King’s final curtain,” Fury stated after the battle.
“I’ve spent a lot of time on the road,” he subsequently remarked. I’ve been gone for quite some time. I accomplished everything I had set out to do.
“And, after Rocky Marciano, I will be only the second heavyweight in history to retire undefeated.”
“In this game, I was unbeatable.”
Fury, who also held his Ring Magazine belt, remains undefeated in 33 fights, while Whyte, who has lost three of his 31 fights, failed to win a world championship for the first time.
If Fury decides to retire, he will lose out on a chance to fight for the undisputed heavyweight title — a bout that could take place later this year – as well as a chance to solidify his legacy as Britain’s best ever heavyweight.
“After the [Deontay] Wilder fight, I promised my wife it would be it,” he added. “However, I was given a fight at Wembley Stadium, and I accepted.”
“I want him to come out immediately,” Fury’s wife, Paris, told BT Sport. He’s done proving himself. ‘Yeah Tyson, you do it,’ I’d tell him if he still had something to do. He, on the other hand, has nothing to show for his efforts.
“There appears to be just one motive for Tyson to continue boxing, and I believe in my heart that the unification match is the only reason Tyson will return.”
Following his victory, Tyson Fury walked to the ring and performed his own version of ‘American Pie’ for the crowd.
