Following the cancellation of the previous voting process on June 6th, the Uganda Musicians’ Association has announced that elections will finally take place on June 28th, 2022. ( UMA Makes a Decision: New Voting Dates for Secret Ballot Elections Announced )
The Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) elections on June 6, 2022, were postponed due to technical difficulties with the digital platform requested from the National Information Technology Authority (NITA-U).
According to UMA, technological flaws prevented the election from producing a free and fair result.
The decision was made to halt the process and set another date for the elections to be held using a more viable method.
The association’s Policy Board voted on June 10th to change the date of the general elections to June 28th, 2022.
The news was announced by UMA in a press release, which also revealed that the elections will be held by secret ballot.
The release also stated that the elections will be held at a single polling station in Kampala to ensure proper oversight.
Candidates will be expected to continue campaigning and educating voters. Various activities will be held to engage members in the run-up to the election.
The Uganda Musicians’ Association Electoral Committee appears to be planning new polls for the new National Theatre Gardens dates.
Following the advice of the UMA Policy Board, I have decided to hold the polls within the next two weeks so that the association does not go on without leadership.
Chairman of the UMA Electoral Committee, Mr. Geoffrey Ekongot
Mrs. Sophie Gombya, Vice Chairperson of the UMA Policy Board, revealed that due to the high cost of organizing national elections, UMA has decided that its members must “come and vote from Kampala.”
“It was a difficult decision to make given the financial circumstances of some of our members,” Sophie Gombya added. ( UMA Makes a Decision: New Voting Dates for Secret Ballot Elections Announced – celebrity jazz ug )
