According to the police, they have begun looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of Batungura Bewotti, a 27-year-old law student at the Kampala campus of Uganda Christian University and a resident of Kikoni Zone B in Kampala’s Makerere 3 Parish Kawempe Division. According to early police information, the victim was stabbed by students who were allegedly led by Hon. Kabye Frank among others during a brawl between two political party supporters during the campaigns.
The event happened yesterday, August 14, at approximately 1900 hrs, during the last guild president open campaign at Makerere University’s rugby grounds.
When the police arrived on the area after being notified, they discovered blood streaks believed to belong to the dead inside Nsibirwa Hall, where he took cover following the altercation that resulted in his stabbing.
The area has been cordoned off, statements are still being taken, and CCTV footage will be retrieved to help with the ongoing investigations, according to Luke Owoyesigyire, the police spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan. He also noted that more information will be made available as soon as it is available.
He added that the body was taken from Makerere hospital, where he passed away from the wound, to the municipal mortuary in Mulago for a postmortem

Owoyesigyire stated that police have now detained three people they say were involved in the commotion.
These include Ssekidde Allan, who is being held at the Wandegeya police station, Kabuurwa Muzafaru, who is being held at the old Kampala police station, and Hon. Kabuye Frank, who is being held at CPS Kampala.
Additionally, attempts are being made to find other culprits. Additionally, it is asserted that the NUP and FDC political factions were involved in the altercation. After an argument, the NUP team led by Kabuye Frank became violent, which resulted in the stabbing.
