Police in Kampala have confirmed that they are holding National Unity Platform (NUP) General Secretary David Rubongoya at Nateete police station.
Rubongoya and his driver Agaba David were detained on their way back from the Court of Appeal, where NUP legislators Muhammed Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana were appearing.
According to Patrick Onyango, a spokesperson for the Kampala Metropolitan Police, the duo is being held on charges of threatening violence and will be transferred to Gulu City for further management.
According to Onyango, the two have been wanted by police since an incident involving Rubongoya’s white Toyota Land Cruiser car Reg. No. UAS 490Z in Omoro County during by-elections.
He claims that on May 26, the duo followed Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng in a threatening act.
Rubongoya initially confirmed being held at Wandegeya police station, where he was later released before being re-arrested at Nateete police station.
Rubongoya was part of the team that went to Omoro to canvass votes for Simon Toolit Akecha, the NUP’s candidate in the Omoro County by-elections.
The seat in Omoro County that became vacant following the death of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah L’Okori was filled by his son Andrew Ojok amid violence and protests from opposition politicians. (Rubongoya and his driver were arrested for threatening Minister Aceng – Celebrity news 2022)
