Kenyans awoke in 2015 to the tragic news of a young man being stabbed to death by his girlfriend Kamande.
In September 2015, Kamande was accused of stabbing her boyfriend 22 times in Nairobi’s Buruburu estate.
Kamande claimed that things became heated after she discovered a hospital card indicating that Mohammed (her boyfriend) was receiving HIV treatment. She claimed that when she confronted her boyfriend about it, he threatened her, saying that they would both rather die than have his HIV status made public.
According to the beauty pageant, the argument escalated when she discovered letters from two other women.
Ms. Kamande claimed she stabbed her boyfriend with a kitchen knife that fell on her while they struggled on the ground.
Later, in 2017, High Court Judge Jessie Lessit sentenced Kamande to death, stating that the prosecution had proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the accused committed the crime.
Ruth Kamande has been imprisoned for several years now, awaiting presidential approval of her death sentence.
The beauty queen’s conviction sparked widespread outrage, with various organizations, including Amnesty International, challenging the sentence.
She received the sentence after admitting to stabbing her boyfriend 22 times with a knife.
While in prison, the stunning damsel has been living her best life. She was crowned Miss Lang’ata Prison in 2016 after winning a beauty pageant held at the facility.
