Never one to hold back, the billionaire businessman on Wednesday tweeted a video of himself walking inside Twitter’s San Francisco headquarters, writing,
“Entering Twitter HQ – let that sink in!”
The nine-second video doesn’t really build up to anything, as you can see. Musk is in. having a sink. entering the main headquarters of Twitter. He changed the title of his Twitter page to “Chief Twit,” which may help to explain the hoax.
As of early Wednesday evening, neither Musk nor Twitter had issued any official statements on the matter, making it unclear whether Musk’s eye-catching presence at the building was meant to signal that his acquisition of Twitter had officially closed.
Musk tweeted that he was “meeting a lot of interesting folks at Twitter today” a few hours after getting there, but if recent news reports are accurate, about three-quarters of them would soon be out of a job.
A draft of an internal letter written by employees that was reportedly being sent around among Twitter employees called Musk’s alleged plan to lower the company’s headcount from about 7,500 to closer to 2,000 “reckless.”
The letter also emphasized that employees who want to work remotely still be permitted to do so, a practice that Musk is renowned for detesting.
More broadly, a large portion of Twitter’s community of about 230,000 people is worried that Musk would carry out earlier comments and lessen content control, which might result in a rise in offensive or other problematic content showing up on the service.
