Affected Districts
Mubende, Kassanda, Kagadi, Bunyangabu, Kyegegwa, Wakiso, and Kampala are the remaining seven districts in Uganda with confirmed EVD cases.
Ebola Confirmed cases in Uganda
Currently, there are 131 confirmed cases and another 21 potential cases, according to the Ministry of Health (MoH). One of the biggest EVD outbreaks in Ugandan history is currently occurring. Positively, Kampala has not experienced a chain of transmission since 14 cases there were reported last week. The fact that patients are already being found in the earlier stages of the illness shows that contact tracing for EVD is successful.
Ebola Updates
Healthcare personnel have had 46 verified fatalities, 49 recoveries, and 18 infections to date. Since October 15th in the Mubende and Kassanda districts, and since October 27th in the Kagadi, Kyegegwa, and Bunyangabu districts, there has been a 21-day lockdown.
WFP sent out five more Mobile Storage Units (MSUs) this week for storage and staff workspace—two to Mubende and three to Kassanda.
WFP will start providing food assistance to 7,500 impacted people starting next week.
The WFP EVD response plan needs US$ 6.2 million, however there is now an 84.6 percent financial gap.
Ebola Cases in Kampala
Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, PhD, stated at a WHO briefing today that although Mubende is still the most affected district, cases have lately increased in two adjacent districts. According to him, the country’s capital and largest city, Kampala, has thus far received confirmation of 17 cases.

Contributions from the US to the Ebola Response in Uganda
Since September 20, 2022, the United States has used implementing partners to channel more than $22.3 million (almost UGX 85 billion) to support the government of Uganda’s leadership of the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak. U.S. government funding advances Ebola surveillance and contact tracing, case management, follow-up care for Ebola survivors, diagnostics and laboratories, risk communications and community engagement, infection prevention and control, waste management, care and treatment for patients in Ebola Treatment Units, as well as safe and dignified patient exit from Ebola Treatment Units.
In order to strengthen Ugandan health systems to prevent, identify, and respond to infectious disease risks, public health specialists from the U.S. Mission in Uganda have been collaborating closely with Ugandan medical professionals for many years. We are utilizing these mechanisms and leveraging the knowledge gained from prior outbreaks to jointly tackle the current Ebola Virus Disease outbreak, working closely with Uganda’s Ministry of Health.
Through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), and the U.S. Department of State, the U.S. government has organized an interagency team to help Uganda’s Ebola response. The support’s highlights include:
U.S. government personnel are involved in and supporting the Ebola response in Uganda.
There are 51 CDC employees working in the impacted districts, including 18 team members from the CDC in Uganda and 33 technical specialists from the CDC’s main office.
The United States government frequently engages in Task Force meetings at both the district and national levels to provide guidance on response plans and coordination.
NO LOCKDOWN, according to President Museveni
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has declared an end to the nation’s lockdowns despite the fight against the deadly Sudan Ebola that was disclosed by the Ministry of Health in September.
President Museveni encouraged people to focus on their work without interruption through his Twitter account.
In regards to the Ebola scenario, there will first of all be NO LOCKDOWN. Therefore, without worrying, people should focus on their task. The SOPs put in place to stop the transmission of Ebola should be followed, Museveni wrote in a post.
However, the president omitted to provide an update on the lockdown that is now being counted down in the districts of Mubende and Kassanda. The 21-day lockdown began on October 16, 2022.
