Katwe police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding a senior six student’s suicide by hanging.

Bright Namusoke, 20, was a Kitebi Senior Secondary School student and a resident of Ngobe Zone, Bunamwaya Division, Makindye Ssabagabo Municipality, Wakiso District.

At 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, relatives discovered Namusoke hanging from a rope in one of her residence’s rooms.

According to one of the deceased’s relatives, Namusoke came home from school irritated, telling them that a teacher had humiliated and demeaned her in front of her peers. Her relatives, on the other hand, dismissed her complaints as unimportant.

Police were informed of the incident, according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson, and detectives have since recorded statements from the relatives as investigations begin.

According to Owoyesigyire, preliminary findings indicate that the deceased had a history of mental illness, which is thought to have triggered the suicide. He goes on to say that relatives recently informed police that the deceased was experiencing more recurrent episodes of mental disorder.

The deceased’s body was taken to the Mulago City Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.

A senior four student from Wanyange Girl’s Senior Secondary School in Kakira town council, Jinja District, committed suicide on June 7. According to police, Josephine Namuli committed suicide in her dormitory on Tuesday around 7 a.m.
